Mechanical Inspections
Buying a used boat can be a wonderful experience, provided you have all of the information.
We perform a 30+ point mechanical inspection on the major components of the motor and drive system. The report includes Compression test on each cylinder, Computer Diagnostic (if applicable), engine hour check from computer, engine oil check, flame arrestor condition, Spark plug condition and gap, Belt condition, hoses condition, Wires condition, engine cleanliness, and block condition, impeller change date and cost to service, steering operation, tilt trim operation, inspect and load test batteries, visually inspect fuel system, inspect steering pin, inspect bellows, skeg, drive, gimbal ring, anodes, props, and prop shaft, gear lube, and run test to confirm idle and shifting. Sea trials available.
At Posh Marine We take pre purchase Inspections very seriously. Jim started his mechanical career in Florida where saltwater boats are the norm. As a result, he is very experienced in spotting signs of saltwater use. Unfortunately, a lot of saltwater boats find their way north that are not as they appear, or they were registered in Michigan, but migrated south each year with owner. We see several boats a year that are in bad shape that would require tens of thousands of dollars to bring them up to freshwater expectations. Without a pre purchase inspection you could end up owning some else’s problems.
Maintenance can also be an issue. Mostly what we find is maintenance that is past due or just coming up. Often a seller won’t even know it needs to be done. Without a pre-purchase inspection a buyer would have to cover these costs, but with a pre-purchase inspection the buyer can normally work with the seller to split the cost or cover it by adjusting the sales price.
At POSH Marine we provide quotes on items found during the prepurchase mechanical inspection. These numbers are great for negotiating the price of the boat, but they are also a quote from POSH Marine to get the work done by the same professional that inspected the boat. See our certifications on the about us page of this site.
We offer Pre- Purchase inspections on boats in Michigan covering a large area. See the About us page for coverage area.
